Blog Post 2 – Four Patch

Hello! Harley here again (@thatcraftydafty) with an update on my monthly Patchwork and Quilting variant of the My Guilty Pleasure Subscription Service

The Patchwork and Quilting option for the My Guilty Pleasure Subscription Service is designed to have you make a block each month, and by the end of the twelfth month you will have enough blocks to make a sampler quilt. The second Block of the Month is the The Four Patch.

As always, inside this month’s box I received the following:

x 4 Fat Eighths of a new Lewis & Irene collection

x 1 Fat Quarter of a background

Fully printed instructions for the Block of the Month, complete with helpful illustrations

x 1 spool of thread, in a coordinating colour

x 1 surprise! (This month it was a Maoam!)

Now, let’s be honest, we quilters love to dive in at the deep-end and make super complicated blocks. We love to overwhelm ourselves and try and make intricate blocks with lots of units and pieces, but sometimes we have to go back to the basics. So, this month provided the perfect opportunity to brush up on some simple sewing and I loved working on this one. The four patch block is great for showing off these mid-scale prints from this Lewis & Irene collection – which is called “Hibiscus Hummingbird”. They are directional though so that’s something to bear in mind when you’re doing blocks with large units; got to make sure all those prints are oriented the right way. Or not, it’s no big deal – let your creativity take you where it wants to.

I’ve loved watching the community over on Facebook come together, once again, and support each other in their ventures to make up the blocks this month. I’ve seen some great work from quilters and sewing-enthusiasts of all skill levels, some really challenging themselves and others who are revisiting the fundamentals, and that’s a beautiful thing. Definitely one of the best aspects of this subscription service.

I hope you’ve found this blog entry useful and informative. I’ll be providing monthly updates on my progress via the Little Miss Sew ‘n’ Sew blogs on their website, but you can check out little sewing updates via my Instagram account: @thatcraftydafty. Hope to see you there.

 Thanks for sticking around!
